A young trailblazer: Pan Xi makes a difference from the young age of 16
Pan Xi is a shining example of a young individual dedicated to giving back to her community. Driven by empathy, she spearheaded Project Oasis together with her friends. The initiative helps immigrant children integrate into Singaporean society through English lessons and character-building activities. Pan Xi also participates in projects supporting underprivileged children, people with special needs, as well as helping individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through her tireless efforts, Pan Xi exemplifies the power of youthful dedication in creating lasting, positive change in society.
A life of selfless service: Herman’s inspiring commitment to community
For over two decades, Herman Sing has been a dedicated community volunteer, known for his compassion and resilience. Despite undergoing major surgery in 2023 to donate 67% of his liver to a stranger, he has continued to organise events through his group – Fulfilling Hope; Realising Dreams, which serves needy families, patients, and children. His commitment extended to the COVID-19 frontline, earning him the PBM and COVID-19 Resilience Medal. Currently, Herman serves as Vice Chairperson on the NKF Volunteer Committee, on the Singapore Silent Heroes Student Award committee, and as a volunteer mentor for polytechnic students.
A compassionate heart: Ms Kong’s dedication to end-of-life care
Ms Kong Huay Siew is a devoted end-of-life care volunteer with HCA Hospice, contributing over 1,500 hours since 2017 as a Medi-Minder and Vigil Angel. In her role, she provides critical nursing care to young Star PALS (Paediatric Advanced Life Support) patients, managing tasks such as suctioning and feeding, while also offering comfort to patients in their final moments. Inspired by her father’s end-of-life journey, Huay Siew is committed to mentoring others and expanding the Vigil Angel program. She aims to equip future volunteers with the skills and compassion essential to this meaningful work.
From survivor to advocate: Ellil’s mission to raise cancer awareness
Ellil Mathiyan Lakshmanan is a cancer survivor who channels his journey into advocacy for cancer awareness and support. Through initiatives like Relay for Life and his role as coordinator for the Cancer Can Give movement, Ellil inspires younger generations to give back and helps them understand cancer survivorship. He regularly speaks at schools and organisations. As a mentor with the SingHealth Patient Advocacy Network, he continues to support fellow cancer survivors and the wider community.
