Seniors from two old folks’ homes were treated to a prehistoric experience during a visit to the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum.
Thanks to the Hong Leong Foundation, the charity arm of Hong Leong Group, 60 elderly folk from the Kheng Chiu Loke Tin Kee Home and Bo Tien Home for the Aged went on a tour of the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum at the National University of Singapore.
It was an eye-opening and educational experience for the seniors, who were accompanied by 40 employee volunteers and management staff from Hong Leong Group’s member companies.
During the guided tour, which took place in late January 2016, the visitors were transported back to early life on earth as they explored the natural history exhibition that showcased more than 2,000 historic exhibits of specimens and fossils of Southeast Asian plants and animals, including near-complete fossils of three giant dinosaurs nicknamed Prince, Apollonia and Twinkie.
After the tour, the elderly were treated to lunch at Copthorne King’s Hotel and entertained with performances by staff volunteers and members of the Hsinghai Arts Association, a beneficiary of Hong Leong Foundation.
As part of the foundation’s annual charity event, there were also cash giveaways of $557,400 to 3,860 individuals under a Ministry of Social and Family Development’s financial assistance scheme, and 1,884 elderly also received Medical Fee Exemption cards.
