Here are some heartwarming stories from our City of Good in the past week!

Delivering Goodie Bags for Migrant Workers

With the help of friends, Huda packed and distributed 60 goodie bags for migrant workers in Tuas. On a late night drive home, they saw construction workers still hard at work in the vicinity. To show appreciation for their hard work, Huda enlisted the help of her friends and family to put together and deliver these care packages.

Each bag was lovingly hand-packed with a good variety of snacks, packet drinks and essentials such as bottles of hand sanitisers and face masks. The distribution lasted for a total of four hours into the early morning, during which Huda and her friends handed out the goodie bags to workers that they met along the way.

In another TikTok video, the workers were seen with warm smiles, waving and expressing their gratitude with a thumbs up! Huda’s giving initiative touched many hearts, spreading care and hope in these uncertain times.

She further expressed that she intends to continue doing this again in the future. Thank you Huda for bringing us one step closer to becoming a City of Good!

Giving 140 Packs of Chicken Rice For Free

With Covid-19 affecting businesses in all sectors worldwide, elderly hawkers were one of the food and beverage groups who were hit the hardest. Unlike the younger generation, the elderly are not digitally savvy enough to raise awareness about their business on social media or food delivery platforms.

After searching different food centres, Jass discovered Xiang Xiang Hainanese Chicken Rice at Amoy Street Food Centre.

The owner Madam Tuan, 82, works every day of the year, starting her day at 6 a.m. to prepare for customers. She works tirelessly to bring warm, delicious plates of chicken rice for just $3, paired with a homely tasting soup and her delightful chili with a spicy kick. Xiang Xiang was one of the many hawker stalls impacted by the pandemic and the tightening of safety measures.

In her Facebook post, Jass relays Madam Tuan’s story, and how it led her to purchase $500 worth of chicken rice to support the senior hawker’s business. Patrons of her home bakery business, Kea Cakes supported her donation.

Her giving not only touched Madam Tuan’s heart, but also the hearts and bellies of 140 seniors. All 140 packs were delivered to the Society for the Aged Sick (SAS), a non-profit nursing home that provides a home and companionship for the aged sick in Singapore.

You can find Madam Tuan at Amoy Street Food Center, Level 1, or contact her directly at 62224367 for bulk orders!

These little acts of good can make a huge difference in our City of Good. Let’s make Singapore a better place for everyone, changing lives one step at a time.
