PVPA 2023: People of Good Award Winners

Organised by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), the President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards (PVPA) is the pinnacle award and platform to recognise individuals, organisations and leaders who have achieved excellence in giving.

The People of Good Award category celebrates people who have given their time, talent, and voice to steer positive change and uplift lives in the community. This year, 4 winners were awarded across the various categories. Read on below to learn more about them!

People of Good (Open) Winner – Janice Soo

Janice

Janice is invested in bridging gaps in the community and advocating for marginalised groups. ​​As a volunteer with non-profit organisations like HCA Hospice Care, TRIGEN, HealthServe, and Filos Community Services, she uses her medical training and skills to provide nursing care for young patients, attending to various healthcare needs and working to improve the lives of migrant workers.

People of Good (Student) Winner – Lee Cai Wei

Cai Wei

Cai Wei supports underprivileged children and young adults through Sisters by Heart Singapore, a non-profit organisation she founded. Learning and education is what sparks her volunteerism. Together with her volunteer team, she has hosted over 200 classes teaching children languages, IT skills, social media, interview skills and various school subjects.

People of Good (Senior) Winner – Malcolm Chen

Malcolm

Malcom founded Ageless Bicyclists in 2015 with a mission to provide experiential inclusive cycling programs and learning for children with special needs and different abilities. For Malcolm, learning never stops no matter the age, nor the ability. He has also organised overseas cycling tours over the years, bringing along fellow volunteers and cyclists for recreation and doing good through group donations to local charities.

People of Good (Senior) Winner – Mark Yuen

Mark

Mark founded Team MDI (Most Dedicated Individuals) in 2016, a volunteer group providing free haircut services to seniors, needy Singaporeans, and migrant workers. He provided an essential service that was needed, especially during the pandemic when many in the community, nursing homes, hospice care centres and migrant worker dormitories were unable to access haircut services. ​
