header image

The year-end school holidays are the perfect time for children, youth, and families to give back together. Whether you’re looking to build empathy, pick up new skills, or simply spend meaningful time with loved ones, here are five volunteer opportunities—kid-friendly, group-friendly, and available during the school holidays—that make giving easy and impactful.

1. Lunch visitation and befriending with Ascending Hope Community Services Ltd

1 Ascending Hope Community Services Ltd 2

Spend your holidays bringing warmth to seniors in Toa Payoh. Through Food For Hope’s weekly Lunch Visitation Programme, volunteers deliver packed meals to elderly residents who often live alone. More than a meal run, this is a chance to offer companionship—chat with seniors about their day, listen to their stories, and brighten their week with simple but heartfelt connection.
This opportunity is especially meaningful for youth, many of whom walk away with a deeper appreciation for the older generation and their own grandparents. Volunteers are encouraged to commit for at least three consecutive Thursdays to build familiarity and trust with seniors.

Who can join:

• Students aged 16 and above

• Children aged 6+ (with a parent)

• Suitable for small groups

Tips for a meaningful experience:

• Engage seniors in genuine conversations—ask about their memories, experiences, and interests.

• Take some time after each session to reflect on what you have learnt about empathy and ageing.

2. Build Brighter Lives with Autism Association (Singapore)

4 Autism Association Singapore 2

At Eden Centre for Adults in Clementi and Hougang, volunteers play a key role in supporting adults on the autism spectrum. Participants assist in daily programmes—ranging from hobby activities to skill-building sessions—while offering companionship, encouragement, and patient guidance.

These interactions help adults with autism grow confidence, practice independence, and discover joy in everyday routines. Group participation is welcome, making this an enriching opportunity for mature youths and young adults who have an interest in inclusive communities.

Who can join:

• Youth aged 16 and above

• Groups welcome

Tips for a meaningful experience:

• Come with an open mind. Every individual communicates differently—being observant and curious will help you build rapport.

• Be patient and allow extra time during conversations and activities.

3. Health Outreach to Seniors with Filos Community Services

2 Filos Community Services 2

Filos’ Active Ageing Centre supports seniors in living healthier, more confident lives. This holiday season, volunteers are invited to join their Health Outreach initiative—an effort that brings health tips and information directly to seniors’ doorsteps. Volunteers will share bite-sized health messages and encourage seniors to register interest for the upcoming Gym Tonic, a strength-training programme designed to prevent and reverse frailty among seniors.

The outreach is group-friendly and perfect for families and youths who enjoy friendly conversations and want to learn more about the needs of seniors.

Who can join:

• Youth aged 16 and above

• Families and groups welcome

Tips for a meaningful experience:

• Bring a friend! Outreach is done in pairs or small groups for confidence and safety.

• Being conversant in a second language—Mandarin, Malay, or dialects—helps build rapport.

4. Support Children with Lakeside Family Services – The GRIT Hub+ (Nanyang)

5 Lakeside Family Services 2

Located in Jurong West (Nanyang), The GRIT Hub+ offers children aged 7–12 a positive and inclusive environment to thrive. Through games, groupwork, and mentoring activities, volunteers help nurture confidence, resilience, and character in children from diverse backgrounds.

Volunteers support children socially and emotionally, supervise activities, assist with sports and learning, and help with operational tasks. This opportunity is ideal for youths who enjoy working with children and want to be part of a caring, supportive community.

Who can join:

• Youth and adults

• Group volunteers welcome

Tips for a meaningful experience:

• Embrace different personalities and adapt appropriately, as every child is unique

• Extend patience and respect to allow children to learn and appreciate things at their own pace

• Ensure everyone receives attention

Love fashion, sustainability, or organising? New2U Thrift Shop—run entirely by volunteers—is opening extra slots for December 2025 and January 2026. Volunteers help sort, price, and display donated pre-loved clothing, accessories, books, and household items. Sales support SCWO’s initiatives, including Star Shelter, which offers refuge to women and children experiencing domestic violence.

This is a great opportunity for youths to meet like-minded peers, learn about thrift culture, and understand how circular fashion can drive social good.

Who can join:

• Youth (below 17 requires parental consent) and adults

• Suitable for groups of friends

Tips for a meaningful experience:

• Ask questions—Learn about how your work supports others. Every task, big or small, makes a real difference.

• Be a team player; kindness and cooperation keep the shop running smoothly.
