Talented youths from APSN, AWWA, CPAS, Metta Welfare Association and NAFA expressed their wishes to become a professional drummer, dancer, policeman or artist.
To fulfil their dreams and aspirations, members of the public can pledge their support through the Giving.sg campaigns, as well as, view the artworks projection at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, ArtScience Museum and the Merlion.
Singapore, 26 December 2018 – In partnership with Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2019, the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) presents the Build a Dream initiative, a collective effort to support the disadvantaged in fulfilling their dreams and personal development. As part of the initiative, artworks created by beneficiaries and students from these organisations will be transformed into light projections on Marina Bay’s iconic landmarks – The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, the Merlion and the ArtScience Museum. Have a Conscious Countdown by Supporting Giving.sg Campaigns and the Beneficiaries
From 26 to 31 December, the façade of The Fullerton Hotel Singapore will be illuminated nightly with artworks by the beneficiaries of the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) and the Metta Welfare Association (Metta). Visitors can enjoy the whimsical projection shows at 15-minute intervals between 8pm and 10.30pm from 26 to 30 December 2018, and between 8pm and 11.30pm on New Year’s Eve.
The artworks by the APSN beneficiaries reflect how they view the world and their aspirations for the future. For instance, “My House” (above) is a colourful rendition of 14-year old Muhammad Hasreen Bin Muhd Hasron’s neighbourhood in Ang Mo Kio, and “The Colourful School Bus” (above) by 15-year-old Lee Yang Lian illustrates a school bus that brings his friends to school. Students and alumni of Metta School, as well as, current resident artists of Arts@Metta also contributed their artworks for the light projections on The Fullerton Hotel Singapore. These include a painting of orchids (above) by 30-year-old Seah Chee Meng, a resident Batik artist at Arts@Metta; as well as “The Eye” (below), a batik painting by 20-year-old Luke Ng, a graduate from Metta School.

Visitors to Marina Bay can also look forward to light projection shows on the ArtScience Museum from 29 to 31 December between 8pm and 10.30pm, and The Merlion between 8pm and 10.30pm on 29 December 2018, and between 8pm and 11.30pm on New Year’s Eve. The façade of the ArtScience Museum will be lit with projections adapted from artworks by beneficiaries of AWWA and the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS), while the Merlion will feature artworks created by students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

Picasso once said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life” and true enough, art in its many forms has given these individuals both comfort and strength to rise above!
This December, join us in our efforts to support the less fortunate and contribute to their personal growth through the Build a Dream campaign, presented in partnership with Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2019. And through the creativity of these talented youths, we discover more about five non-profits and the impact art has on lives.
1. Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN)
APSN Tanglin School provides opportunities for students with mild intellectual disabilities between 13 to 16 years old, developing their creative talents and building greater confidence through art.

2. Metta Welfare Association

3. Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS)

4. AWWA

NAFA is a local arts institution developing the skills of budding artists through their diploma courses. The school supports students who require financial assistance through scholarships and funds.
