Singapore’s integrated giving portal by the NVPC has crossed *$100 million in donations raised for charities and garnered 240,000 volunteer hours, 127,000 registered users, 487 charities, and 1,500 campaigns hosted on the platform.
Singapore, 26 December 2017 – Giving.sg, the online donation platform by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), has crossed *$100 million in donations raised for charities. The one-stop portal for donating, volunteering and fundraising has also managed to garner 127,000 registered users, 240,000 sign-up volunteer hours, 487 charities, and 1,500 campaigns being hosted on the platform to date.
Mr Andy Sim, NVPC’s Director of Digital Innovation, the team behind Giving.sg says of the milestone, “We are very grateful for the support we have received so far and this $100 million milestone is an encouragement for us to continue working on improving the platform to help more charities achieve their goals.”
THE EVOLUTION OF GIVING.SG
In December 2015, Giving.sg came about as a result of a merger of SG Cares and SG Gives, two separate platforms dedicated to volunteerism and donations respectively. With Giving.sg, Singaporeans could now donate, volunteer and fundraise on one integrated platform.
This year in October, NVPC announced the launch of a refreshed Giving.sg as part of the centre’s strategic plan to develop Giving.sg into an intelligent platform that will further promote informed giving. New features include a wishlist for charities to specify items that they need and data analytics so that users can track their personal giving journeys. In addition, organisations and group leaders can also create private volunteering opportunities and fundraising campaigns for their members to participate.
Reflecting on the Giving.sg journey for the past few years, Mr Sim says he is positive that charities can leverage technology in their fundraising efforts, “For the first five years, between 2010 to 2015, we raised about $50 million. However, it only took about 2 years, from 2015 to date, to double that amount to $100 million.” He adds, “Despite weaker fundraising sentiments reported by charities in Singapore, donations on Giving.sg increased more than 20 percent this year, thanks to the increase in the number of active donors (comparing Jan – Nov 2017 vs Jan – Nov 2016).”
