The online giving platform by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) also wants to make its Application Programming Interface (API) available to partners to co-develop better giving solutions for Singapore.

Singapore, 24 June 2019 – Giving.sg, the online giving platform by NVPC has raised over SGD$150 million* in charitable donations since its beginnings in 2010.

The one-stop portal for donating, volunteering and fundraising currently supports more than 500 registered charities. It made news in December 2017 for raising over $100 million and has hit its new milestone of $150 million in just 18 months.

Since 2017, the top five causes for donating on Giving.sg have been: Children & youth (17% of all donations), the elderly (15%), health (13%), social services (12%) and community causes (11%).

In addition, Giving.sg now supports:

  • 186,978 registered users, up from 129,332 in 2017
  • 525 charities, up from 491 in 2017
  • 3,589 fundraising campaigns, up from 1,720 in 2017

“The rise of charitable giving on Giving.sg affirms that Singapore cares. It also shows that everyone can give and care for each other when it is simple, meaningful and fun,” said Mr Andy Sim, Director of Digital Innovation at NVPC.

Building A Seamless Giving Journey

The increase in Giving.sg donations coincides with a series of improvements to the platform since October 2017 to make giving an intuitive and seamless experience.

These improvements include letting individuals set up automated monthly donations, view personalised dashboards of their donation amounts and volunteer hours, and providing charities with data analytics to efficiently track donor behaviour and online fundraising efforts.

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the giving experience, Giving.sg is making available its Application Programming Interface (API) which would allow partners to integrate the platform’s services and features right into their own apps and websites.

“Imagine being able to donate groceries to families-in-need while using your favourite grocery shopping app. Or being able to round up your online retail purchases to the nearest dollar and donating the change to charity with a few taps. These are some potential applications of our open API. We can embed opportunities to give back in everyday apps and websites, and offer partners a meaningful way to engage and delight their customers,” said Mr Andy Sim.

Giving.sg’s API is supporting the SG Cares app, which promotes volunteerism and giving as part of our national movement to build a caring and inclusive home for all. Since May 2019, users of the SG Cares app can browse, donate and sign up for Giving.sg opportunities on the app without being directed to a separate web browser. This makes it more convenient for people to give at their fingertips, and for charities which are seeking donors and volunteers to reach new audiences. The API is also supporting an additional location based function on the app for users to search for volunteer opportunities near where they are, value adding to what Giving.sg can offer.

“Open API is our way of bringing the community together to co-create an intelligent giving platform. It enables partners to leverage Giving.sg’s shareable data and services to develop different last-mile applications to meet diverse needs. In this way, we can gradually create a thriving eco-system that achieves our vision of a caring and inclusive home,” said Mr Andy Sim.

Organisations and groups may contact the Giving.sg team if they have proposals for potential API integrations.

About Giving.sg

Giving.sg is Singapore’s online platform to match donors and volunteers to charities. As Singapore’s one-stop portal for all givers, Giving.sg is home to over 500 charities. Givers can help local charities, by giving their time, through general volunteering; talent, through skill-specific volunteering or by starting a fundraiser; or treasure, by making a donation. Giving.sg came about in December 2015 as a result of a merger of SG Cares and SG Gives, two separate platforms dedicated to volunteerism and donations respectively. Giving.sg allows users to donate, volunteer and fundraise on one integrated platform.
