National Benchmarking Survey On Volunteerism In Singapore 2000

The inaugural National Benchmarking Survey On Volunteerism In Singapore 2000 was carried out to monitor the local volunteer participation rate; determine profiles of volunteers and non-volunteers; identify factors contributing volunteer participation; and uncover public perceptions of volunteerism.

Key findings

1. The volunteer participation rate in Singapore is 9.3%, compared with 56% in USA, 48% in UK and 25% in Japan;
2. Volunteer hours are comparable with those in USA and UK, with weekly average standing at 3.8 for Singapore, 3.5 for USA, and 3.2 for UK.
