This survey measures individual giving in terms of volunteerism and philanthropy in Singapore. Key objectives are to determine extent of individual giving of time and money, profile givers and study their behaviors and motivations, and inform policy.
Key findings
- Volunteer participation has risen from 15.5% to 16.9%; -Donation amounts has risen from S$341 million to S$958 million;
- Donor participation has risen from 89% to 91%, but is still below 2004’s high of 97%;
- Public confidence in charities has risen from 28% to 40% for “above moderate to complete confidence”;
- Connection between volunteerism and philanthropy remains strong as among current volunteers 98% are donors while current volunteers who donate give 4x more than non volunteers who donate.
