The annual President’s Volunteerism and Philanthropy Awards (PVPA), conferred by the President of Singapore, celebrates individuals, leaders, organisations, and communities who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to giving.
The Communities of Good award goes to outstanding charities and ground-ups that have been exemplary in leveraging networks and community-driven solutions to enable giving and create a positive social impact, while the City of Good award recognises cross-sector partnerships that have achieved a significant and sustainable impact, resulting in lasting contributions to society.
Project Obscura believes that everyone deserves to have their stories seen and memories preserved, regardless of their circumstances. Founded in 2022, the youth-led groundup makes professional photography accessible to underserved communities, while helping charities and community organisations tell their stories through compelling visuals. It has grown to 330 volunteers and collaborated with 100 partners, delivering over 50,000 photographs and reaching an estimated 10,000 people. Beyond capturing meaningful moments, Project Obscura also equips beneficiaries and young volunteers with photography skills, enabling them to share stories and give back to the community.
New Life Stories supports families affected by incarceration, with the aim of breaking the cycle of intergenerational incarceration. Its flagship Family Strengthening Programme provides systemic whole-of-family support spanning counselling and therapy, parenting interventions within prison, and weekly one-to-one befriending for children. In 2025, New Life Stories supported 160 families and over 700 individuals, bringing its reach to more than 4,600 people to date. Its throughcare approach provides continuous support to families throughout a parent’s incarceration and reintegration journey, working with community and government partners while engaging volunteers to provide sustained support to children and families.
SHINE Children and Youth Services supports young people through programmes that help overcome barriers in learning and literacy, build mental health and resilience, enable pathways to social mobility, and guide young people towards positive choices. Programmes include Reading Odyssey, which has reached over 1,900 children across 21 communities, with 80–90% improving in reading ability and confidence; and Youth COP, which develops young people as leaders and crime prevention ambassadors, with over 93% remaining offence-free. Recognising that challenges are often interconnected, SHINE works alongside families, schools, government agencies, volunteers, and community partners to create stronger conditions for young people to thrive.
60 Lights, One Future brought together Peace of Art, Singapore Red Cross, and City Developments Limited to turn giving into a collective movement. The campaign rallied 60 “Lights” – comprising individuals, families, businesses, corporates, creators, and communities – to each activate their own networks in support of the Singapore Red Cross Young Hearts Programme. Together, they raised over S$468,000 to provide sustained support for children from vulnerable backgrounds through education, mentorship, enrichment, and nutrition initiatives. Building on a partnership since 2021, the initiative demonstrates the power of cross-sector collaboration in broadening participation in giving, uniting social impact, community engagement, and environmental sustainability to create lasting change.
Congratulations to the Communities of Good and City of Good winners for embodying the spirit of collaboration and shared purpose. Your collective efforts show what we can achieve when we come together, and may your work continue to inspire and uplift us all as we build a truly caring and compassionate Singapore.
