5 Charities to Support This World Mental Health Day

Web Article Banner 2

World Mental Health Day is a reminder that mental wellbeing is just as vital as physical health — for children, young people, families, and communities alike. Across Singapore, many charities work tirelessly to provide support, destigmatise mental illness, and strengthen resilience. Here are 5 organisations you can support to make a meaningful difference.

1. EQUAL: Stronger Minds, Kinder Hearts

Equal Ark

EQUAL harnesses the healing power of horses to help children, youths, seniors, and families build resilience and emotional wellbeing. They run animal-assisted programmes that nurture stronger minds and more compassionate communities.
By supporting them, you can help EQUAL continue to bring comfort, healing, and hope to those who need it most — while giving therapy horses a meaningful second life.

2. Mental Health Film Festival Singapore (MHFFS): Changing Minds Through Film

MentalHealthFilmFestivalSingapore

MHFFS champions awareness, education, and advocacy through film-based initiatives. Its mission is to destigmatise mental health and promote dialogue as part of Singapore’s National Mental Health Strategy. Its key programmes include the Short Film Youth Competition, which empowers young film-makers to explore mental health themes.  It’s a youth leadership programme that builds social capital and advocacy skills. Through its flagship film festival and outreach efforts, MHFFS sparks conversations, challenges stigma, and promotes inclusive approaches to wellbeing.

2. Mental Health Film Festival Singapore (MHFFS): Changing Minds Through Film

MindfullCommunityLimited

Tiny actions can make a huge difference. Mindfull Community’s “Small Change, Big Impact” movement reminds us that mental health affects everyone – caregivers, youth, and families alike. By giving a little each month or showing kindness in everyday ways, you join a collective force of compassion.

Your contribution can fuel a movement that strengthens resilience, nurtures wellbeing, and reminds every individual that they matter. When we come together, small gestures don’t just add up — they transform lives.

4. Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH): Decades of Support

Established in 1968, SAMH is Singapore’s first mental health social service agency, serving youths, adults, and seniors. It offers a comprehensive range of rehabilitative, outreach, and creative services designed to support individuals with mental health issues and promote wellness for all.
Through various initiatives, SAMH enhances mental resilience, provides essential support, including reintegration efforts, and focuses on preventive care.

5. O’Joy Limited: Affordable Counselling for Young People

OJoy

At O’Joy, every student deserves the chance to thrive, not just survive. Its Mental Health Services provide affordable, professional counselling for young people facing depression, anxiety, and other challenges that affect their studies and relationships.
In the last financial year, O’Joy’s counsellors conducted 329 sessions supporting 81 individuals. This year, their goal is to help more than 90 young people access timely support. Your donation can sponsor a counselling session, giving a young person the opportunity to be heard, supported, and guided through difficult times.

How You Can Help

Whether it’s funding therapy sessions, empowering young people, sparking conversations through film, or simply giving a small monthly gift, every contribution helps sustain vital mental health services. This World Mental Health Day, consider supporting one of these charities — because together, we can build stronger minds and kinder hearts across Singapore.
